Could the NEG be a boost for renewables?
Zen Energy has announced plans for a lot of dispatchable renewable generation in South Australia: 1 GW of it. This is the result of Sanjeev Gupta’s investment in Zen Energy and will enable up to 680 MW of solar capacity, as well as significant battery storage, pumped hydro and demand management.
Sanjeev Gupta has made billions in trading so knows how and where to invest. Andy Vesey, CEO of AGL, recently said that they are not building new coal as it is too expensive, and that they are building renewables as they are the cheapest.
With the renewables + storage direction the market is taking, combined with simple economics, will the NEG actually be a boost for renewables?
