Power System Architect
FWG39001
Sydney, NSW
A Power System Architect is required to lead the design of the power system for a cutting edge electrolyser technology and associated infrastructure that will integrate renewable energy as the power supply. The company is an Australian start-up backed by a world class research team and significant investors.
The power system will involve a novel integration and adaptation of existing technologies and the Power System Architect will engage a Principal Engineering & Design Contractor and a manufacturer to carry out detailed designs and they will also need to ensure that the overall system design meets the efficiency, safety and reliability targets.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and implement novel approaches for the AC to DC rectification and control of electrical supply for the electrolysis stack.
- Identify development partners and manage the relationship for ensuring on-schedule and on-budget supply.
- Integration of the AC/DC systems to the wider electrical system, development of the electrical architecture to ensure safety, reliability and efficiency targets are met.
- Evaluate electrical designs (including interconnections and microgrid designs) proposed by EPCs and electrical design contractors.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to both internal and external multidisciplinary teams of engineers and stakeholders involved in the design work.
- Identify potential risks and vulnerabilities in power system designs and propose effective mitigation strategies. Conduct thorough analysis and simulations to validate system performance and reliability under different scenarios.
- Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including system specifications, design guidelines, test procedures, and evaluation reports.
Requirements include:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field.
- Significant R&D/design, and hands-on experience, in power engineering, particularly in AC/DC rectification systems such as EV charging and large DC power load industries (steel processing / aluminium smelting).
- Experience with, up to 1 kV DC systems and incorporating this into electrical systems greater than 100 MW.
- Additional experience with electrolysers, battery, electrical energy storage systems or MW scale transformers is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of power system engineering principles, including load flow analysis, stability analysis, protection schemes and control system design.
- Proficiency in power system simulation software, such as PSS/E, DIgSILENT, PSCAD, or ETAP.
- Leadership qualities with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and lead technical discussions.
- Detail-oriented, with a focus on producing high-quality deliverables within project timelines.
- Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
