Chief Operating Officer – Virtual Power Plant

 Australia’s largest Virtual Power Plant operator is looking to hire a Chief Operating Officer to ensure that the functionality of the business will drive extensive and sustainable growth, as well as securing the resources and operational tools necessary to grow and prosper.

The COO will lead a high-performing team consisting of Managers, Engineers, Service Delivery Managers, Electricians, Installers and Project Managers and will require emotional intelligence, situational awareness and the ability to perform root cause analysis to solve problems to enable the business plan to be delivered.

As a member of the C-Suite, the COO will also contribute across all areas of the business as part of the Leadership Team.

 Responsibilities:

  • Develop strategic & operational plans/roadmap for the business and its overall growth.
  • Build out and lead a high-performing Operations, Installation (in-house and contractors) and Service team and liaise with multiple groups to deliver an exceptional level of Installation management, client satisfaction, and employee engagement, with the ability to drive numerous and diverse resources.
  • Develop, implement and maintain best practice health and safety and operational policies to maintain an exceptional level of KPIs for safety and quality. Effectively manage operational risks.
  • Enable business growth through developing new products and geographical expansion. Drive innovative revenue-generating projects.
  • Ensure effective and efficient management of the supply chain and operational costs.
  • Drive innovation and continual improvement, reporting against metrics.
  • Support the development of Fleet Management capabilities with the CTO.
  • Manage the Member Services team to resolve customer-specific faults to a successful outcome.
  • Effectively manage the end-to-end Hardware stack once considered BAU.

Requirements

  • Degree level education with electrical engineering, or similar, preferred.
  • Preferably a master’s degree, such as an MBA.
  • Demonstrable experience in operations, engineering, infrastructure or project delivery, ideally within the renewable energy, energy retail, or clean tech sectors.
  • Experience of the deployment of residential or commercial solar and BESS assets, with knowledge of Australian standards (AS4777, AS5033, AS5139) is highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated capability to build and manage relationships and strategic partnerships, building strong cross-company relationships to influence and drive outcomes with internal and external stakeholders.
  • A leadership style defined by empowerment and emotional intelligence with a proven ability to scale systems and teams, and a track record of delivering commercial outcomes in high-growth or transition environments.
  • Expert problem-solving skills, critical thinking and ability to resolve complex issues, including root cause analysis, utilising varied resources and subject matter experts across multiple technology groups.
  • Proven experience in data analysis, performance/operations metrics, and financial management, including reporting, budget preparation and cost control.
  • Experience in project development and management.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills credible and impactful to “C level” and Board.
  • Ability to communicate and drive outcomes in a balanced manner.
  • Experience of operational and process improvement enabling the development of a team to operational maturity.
  • Experience of developing strategic & operational plans for a business and its overall growth.
  • Ability and willingness to travel interstate as required.
  • Australian citizen or permanent resident.
