Director of Transactions

A unique opportunity exists in a highly regarded renewable energy project development company that has created a new division to strengthen the financial skill base in the company. The  Director of Transactions will build and lead a team that will provide the company’s financial transaction capability.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and manage the Transactions team and budget to successfully progress development projects.
  • Manage several PPA opportunities across the development portfolio.
  • Develop and manage a strategy to target retail and corporate PPA counterparties using B2B techniques.
  • Secure, negotiate and finalise PPAs that meet the investment and risk appetite requirements.
  • Manage the sell down of equity interests in developed renewable energy projects and, from time to time, the acquisition of development projects to support the development pipeline.
  • Manage a process to secure debt for the portfolio both at a project and corporate level.
  • Develop innovative strategies to secure competitive lending rates that meet the requirements of the company’s investment and risk appetite.
  • Manage a team to develop highly functional financial models for every project in the development portfolio.
  • Engage with and assist the executive team to engage with shareholders.
  • Communicate and upskill other people in the company about the work of the Transactions team to better equip them to prioritise their own work.

Requirements

  •  A relevant Degree level qualification (Finance, Economics or similar).
  • An experienced professional with substantial direct experience in the execution of renewable energy financing, project M&A, PPAs and supporting financial modelling.
  • Expert level renewable energy project financial modelling capabilities.
  • Expert level development of capital management plans and supporting financial modelling (both at a corporate and project level).
  • Expert level development of investment proposals/business cases for the acquisition, disposal and financing of renewable energy projects.
  • Experience in acquiring and disposing of equity interests in renewable energy projects.
  • Experience securing debt and hybrid debt for renewable energy projects.
  • Experience in sourcing government supported or concessional financing for renewable energy.
  • Experience implementing interest rate hedging strategies and restructures.
  • Experience negotiating Power Purchase Agreements for renewable energy projects.
  • High ethical standards.
  • Excellent verbal/written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse team and multiple remote counterparties.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • A flexible, pro-active, reliable and positive attitude.
  • Able to travel domestically with a current Australian driving license.
  • Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
