Australia’s largest Virtual Power Plant operator is looking to hire a Strategy Director to shape, develop, evolve, and articulate a compelling, focused strategic direction that increases the value of the company to customers and investors, and for their employees.

This will initially focus on a Go To Market Strategy for expansion into the National Electricity Market and will then require strategy revisions on an ongoing basis to make sure the company adjusts as they learn, and will carry out continuous market scanning of competitors, products, industry trends and communicate opportunities and risk to stakeholders. Other growth areas will include expansion into the commercial & industrial market as well as new product offerings.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the development of the strategy, ensuring that it aligns with the company’s overall objectives and long-term vision.
  • Work closely with the Advisory firm to map out the key phases of the expansion, from initial market research to go-to-market strategies and full operational rollout. Drive accountability of advisory firm.
  • Analyse, review, and assist the advisory firm with presenting data on market size, growth potential, competitive landscape, customer demographics, and local economic conditions.
  • Advise on the allocation of resources for the expansion project, including determining the budget, manpower and technological needs.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial forecasts and budgets, including a robust set of interdepartmental KPIs for market expansion activities.
  • Identify potential risks associated with the market entry and develop strategies to mitigate these risks: economic risks, regulatory challenges, competitive threats, and operational risks. Develop contingency plans to address these risks proactively.
  • Ensure effective communication channels between the Advisory firm, executive leadership, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor effectiveness and gather feedback from teams and market responses.
  • Make iterative improvements to the strategy based on real-time data and evolving market conditions.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in strategic planning and business development, preferably with regional or global market expansion expertise. Experience at a top-tier Advisory firm would be advantageous.
  • Strong analytical abilities with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Ability to identify and address stakeholder needs, issues, and expectations.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Strategic thinker with a results-driven mindset and a demonstrated ability to develop and execute effective sales strategies.
  • A good understanding of the energy market (solar and battery an advantage), industry trends, and regulatory landscape in Australia.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Ability to travel as needed to meet with advisors, partners, and stakeholders, attend meetings and participate in industry events.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and adaptable to evolving market conditions.
  • Australian citizen or permanent resident.
